Manchester legend Oli Furness with 6AM MIX052.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a producer and DJ from Manchester, in the UK. I have run a few labels in my time, including Music is Love Records. I make house & techno and have been signed to labels such as Clone, Unknown to the Unknown, Skylax, and a few others along the way. I’ve released over 30 records and DJ’d all over the gaff- the all time highlight possibly being Glastonbury. I was a resident at Sankeys for a few years where we ran some wonderful Music is Love parties, hosting some absolutely silly line ups. To give you an idea, the first part alone was Moodymann, Levon Vincent and Delano Smith!
Tell us about this mix. Where did you record it and what influenced it?
The mix was recorded in Manchester. To be honest, it wasn’t really heavily influenced by anything other than the music at hand, and to showcase what kind of sounds and styles you might hear if you ever heard me play a club set somewhere- condensed down into an hours worth of tracks. There are a few unreleased bits in there from myself, so I tried to navigate a way of dropping them into the programming of the tracks. The Modeselektor edit at the end has been doing serious bits having tested it out a few times this year… it went off in Room 1 of Fabric for the Dext Recording showcase and what better place to test the water on a track!
What’s coming up for the rest of the year?
Bit of a slow year waiting for releases to drop and things like that, but I have 2 EPs forthcoming on CHIWAX, a label which has historically been full of absolute legends and something I’m super proud of getting a release on. Apart from them, I have a few labels I’m trying to finish up stuff for- like another EP to drop on Dj Haus’ UTTU. On the gigs side of things.. I’ve had to start working a day job again recently, and that involves me being away from home, so I’ve not be able to take bookings for most of the year, but hopefully I can start to factor a few more gigs in for later in the year.
